This area holds great ecological significance, serving as a vital habitat for various wildlife. What makes it even more special is that it’s one of the few places where you can observe all four native Galápagos Mangrove species. These mangroves not only support diverse wildlife but also play a crucial role in preserving the coastline and protecting against erosion caused by the relentless waves.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of sandy beaches, rocky shores, and lush mangrove forests as you explore the trails of this captivating area. Keep your eyes peeled for migratory birds and marvel at the rich biodiversity that thrives here.

Hiking the Sierra Negra Volcano (AM) & Speedboat to Santa Cruz Island (PM)
The majestic Sierra Negra Volcano will occupy today’s agenda.
Our adventure starts with a journey from Puerto Villamil to the beginning of the trail. Once there, we will prepare our backpacks and start our walk through the relatively young woods, which suffer from constant geological changes.
You’ll do a roundtrip hike to its summit, from where you’ll get to see the second-largest volcanic crater in the world. Walk around spectacular lava landscapes, taking in the northern volcanoes in Isabela and Fernandina Islands. During your climb, make sure to be on the lookout for the unique vegetation that inhabits the area.
Your finishing point is the edge of the Sierra Negra Volcano’s crater, this volcano is still active. Once at the edge of the crater, you will have spectacular views of the crater and the volcanoes that surround it. The circumference of the crater is huge, with a diameter of almost 10 km along with its widest point.

This morning, you will take the public speedboat from Santa Cruz to San Cristobal (approx. 2-2,5 hours). After arriving and checking in to your hotel.
Welcome to San Cristóbal Island! Visit the Interpretation Center, Tijeretas Hill, or La Lobería (Speedboat from Santa Cruz)
You will get a speedboat from Santa Cruz to San Cristóbal Island. Check-in to your Puerto Baquerizo Moreno hotel and visit an interpretation center to learn about the island’s wildlife and conservation efforts. In a natural history room, see a presentation of the islands’s origins, and in another, human history since Galápagos’s discovery.
Then, see some of the archipelagos’ wildlife in their natural habitat at Las Tijeretas Hill, named for tijeretas (frigatebirds), that inhabit and nest in this area. If you visit the island from June to October, you may also see whales. Finish the day at La Lobería, a beach that’s home to sea lions and marine iguanas.
Duration: Approximately 6 hours
Difficulty Level: Easy
Altitude: 730 m
Recommended age: 6+ years
After breakfast, we’ll head toward Kicker Rock or Lobos Islands (The site to visit depends on the availability).
KICKER ROCK León Dormido, known in English as Kicker Rock. The Spanish name comes from the perception that the rock looks like a sleeping sea lion; whereas, the English name has an unclear origin but appears to be in reference to the historical sea markers in Hampshire, England, that were known as Gil-kicker and Kicker-Gill. In any case, it’s an impressive rock formation, shaped largely by erosion. The walk takes about an hour from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. On the way, we pass through a variety of landscapes and vegetation zones. Keep your eyes open on the way because you might spot some interesting wildlife or plants as we walk. Once we reach León Dormido, we can swim or snorkel with the sea lions, sea turtles, and sharks – whitetip reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and Galápagos sharks. Additionally, many birds frequent the area such as frigatebirds, blue-footed boobies, and lava gulls.
LOBOS ISLAND Lobos Island is aptly named after the many sea lions that reside here resting and playing along the rocky shores. It is also home to many different birds like pelicans, frigate birds and their nests, yellow warblers, and more. Within the small channel, the waters are very clear, making it easy to find sea turtles, sea lions, stingrays, and perhaps even white-tipped sharks.
Back in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, you can take a nice walk along the gorgeous beach; take a break to relax and enjoy the scenery; or read by the ocean.
Today you will visit the Island at your own pace until your flight to the mainland.
