Embark on a 6-day adventure into some of Tanzania's finest wilderness areas. Begin your tour at Lake Manyara National Park with its massive soda lake, and witness one of Africa's largest concentrations of elephant, as well as tree-climbing lions. Float over the magnificent Serengeti National Park in a hot air balloon, taking in its endless plains, quaint villages and abundant wildlife. Visit the Olduvai Gorge, where the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’ were discovered, and descend over 600 meters down into the Ngorongoro crater to see lions, cheetah, zebra, jackal and giant African elephants in action.
From USD 1,900 per person
Your adventure begins in Arusha, where you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to Ambureni Coffee Lodge. Here you will have dinner and spend the night.
Overnight at Ambureni Coffee Lodge: half board
After breakfast at Ambureni Coffee Lodge, one of our drivers will transfer you to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge, before heading into Lake Manyara National Park for an exciting afternoon game drive. Manyara is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park), located at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals, including one of Africa’s largest concentrations of elephants, Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, and large flocks of graceful flamingos. After a thrilling first game drive, head back to your lodge for dinner and a chance to wind down before bed.
Overnight at Migunga Tented Camp: full board
After breakfast, head towards the Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high-lying farmlands of Manyara and the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Leaving the highlands behind, descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Head to the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, an important water source which attracts a wide variety of wildlife. Arrive back at the campsite in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive to catch the sunset. Return for dinner and leisure time in the evening.
Overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp: full board
On day four, be one of the fortunate few to glide in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti plains. Floating silently above the waking bush, spot wildlife and enjoy the amazing scenery across rivers and numerous small villages. After breakfast, head out for a game drive along the Sogore River Circuit, and look out for lion, Thomson’s gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah. After some animal tracking, enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch in the shade of giant acacia trees. In the afternoon, follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Masai Kopjes, and attracts a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. As the kopjes provide shade and drinking water, they are good spots for wildlife sightings in the dry seasons. Return to your camp in the evening for dinner and leisure time.
Overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp: full board
After breakfast at the lodge, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation area. You will stop over at Olduvai Gorge along the way. It was here that the anthropologists Drs Louis and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution. After a rest and lunch at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge, you will visit the Ngorongoro crater and descend over 600 meters down to view wildlife. The Ngorongoro National Park is home to an impressive variety of animals, including herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card is the dense population of predators including lion, hyena, jackal, cheetah, and the ever-elusive leopard. Next, visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater. A large number of hippos, flamingos and other water birds can be spotted here. Return in the evening for dinner and leisure time at your lodge.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge: full board
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge before heading back to Arusha. Eat a final lunch with your guide and group in Arusha, before being transferred to either your hotel, or the airport for your return flight.
Overnight at Ambureni Coffee Lodge: half board
