You will rise early and have a good breakfast, preparing you for a day of trekking, and then make your way to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will then set off into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas of Uganda. The trekking time to find the giant apes is unpredictable and ranges from 2-9 hours, depending on their movements. After a hearty breakfast, you will begin the scenic drive to the home of the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Once you have crossed into Rwanda and made your way to the Volcanoes National Park, you will check-in at your lodge and then have the opportunity for an evening excursion to the beautiful twin lakes, Burera and Ruhondo. Later you will head back to the lodge, for dinner and a good nights rest.

Burera Twin

After breakfast you will assemble at the park headquarters for your briefing and then begin your second gorilla trek of the safari. The trek time again varies and depends on where one of the habituated groups are located. The conditions will be much the same with some steep, slippery climbs in often wet conditions which make it all the more rewarding when you find the gentle giants. After your hour with the gorillas, observing them and taking in how lucky you have been to experience this more than once in two countries, you will head back through the forest to your lodge. In the evening, you will visit a Ibyiwacu community village to learn about one of Rwanda’s cultural groups, their traditions and beliefs.
