Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by your guide/driver who will give you a briefing about your safari. Then you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to over half of the world’s mountain gorillas, where you can relax, have dinner and get ready for the next day’s gorilla trekking.
Overnight at Gorilla Valley Lodge or similar (dinner, breakfast)
This morning you will wake early and prepare for your gorilla trekking. You will be allocated one of the gorilla groups that call the mountains of Bwindi home. A close encounter with these gentle giants is an amazing and humbling experience. Following your incredible day in the forest with the gorillas, you will return to the lodge. Later on, you will go for the Batwa community trail. You will get to learn of their way of living. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
Overnight at Gorilla Valley Lodge or similar (lunch, dinner, breakfast)
This morning you will have breakfast then cross the Uganda-Rwanda border and overnight near Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda, the tiny land locked country is known as the “land of a thousand hills”. The rest of the day will be spent either at leisure as you prepare for the next day’s adventure or you get to engage in the following optional activities:
Overnight at La Palme Hotel or similar (lunch, dinner, breakfast)
Have breakfast then head to the forest in search of the golden monkeys. These are a local subspecies of the widespread skye monkey, known as the “blue monkey”. Seeing these playful and inquisitive monkeys leap from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor is awesome. Return to the lodge for a hot lunch. Later in the day, you will get to visit the Ibyiwacu cultural village. This village gives you a rare chance to meet the local people in their environment with a taste of their culture and traditions. You will interact with the people and get to take part in their daily activities.
Overnight at La Palme Hotel or similar (lunch, dinner, breakfast)
You will have breakfast and then drive to Kigali town. It is here that you will get to know Rwanda’s most beautiful and amazing city, learn about the country’s culture and history by visiting the cultural and historical sites of Kigali. Kigali is Rwanda’s capital city and was named by Doctor Richard Kandt in 1907, the first colonial governor of Rwanda. The city is built on several hills and valleys, thereby gaining the title “the land of a thousand hills” or “hilly city”. Later have lunch then continue to the airport for your outbound flight home.
