On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your Gifted African Adventures representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha. You will overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge, situated in the quiet suburbs of the city. Here you will have the chance to relax and prepare for your safari that begins in the morning.
After an early morning breakfast, you will depart for Tarangire National Park. The Park is named after the Tarangire River that runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. In places, the vegetation is quite dense, particularly around the acacia woodlands. The healthy vegetation and constant supply of water attracts a massive number of elephant herds, making the park home to the largest elephant population in the country. There are numerous antelope species that also call the reserve home which in-turn attracts the big cats. The park is a nesting ground for the largest number of breeding birds then any other park in the world, offering magnificent bird viewing. You will enjoy a full day in the park before heading to dinner at Eileen’s Tree Inn where you will spend the night.
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will depart for the famous Ngorongoro Crater. While descending into the crater, you may feel like you are entering a forgotten world. You will have an opportunity to potentially see the endangered black rhino and large prides of lions. The crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself around three million years ago. It is famous for both its geological uniqueness and for being a reserve that is home to one of the most densely populated regions of large mammals in the whole of Africa. The crater is known to hold over 500 different bird species offering wonderful bird viewing. After a packed lunch, you will drive to the Serengeti National Park. You will have dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp.
Enjoy yet another early breakfast before setting off on your full day game drive, giving you the best chance to see many animals while you explore this incredible park. The Serengeti with its massive grassland plains, houses an abundance of wildlife, including its huge herds of zebra and wildebeest that make up the famous great migration. You may also see leopards, cheetahs and lions who follow the herds in search of prey. After your game drive, you will make your way to Karatu, where you will spend the evening. You will be able to enjoy a delicious dinner before some evening drinks beside the fire and relaxing under the African sky.
You will have breakfast at the lodge before taking a short drive to Lake Manyara National Park. The reserve is relatively small but holds a diverse range of animals and is known for its massive salt lake that occupies the majority of the park’s land. The soda lake is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. As you explore the park, you may encounter the famous tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara or some of the many primates that fill the surrounding woodlands. The reserve also boasts a decent population of baobab trees. Later you will return to Arusha after enjoying a packed lunch. This marks the end of your African safari experience.
