Day by Day Overview

Depart Entebbe/Kampala for your 8-9 hour road transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park located in south western Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half the world’s mountain gorillas and is the only place where chimpanzees co-exist with mountain gorillas. You will have an en-route stopover at the Equator crossing for photographs and simple experiment before continuing to Mbarara town for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on your scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Overnight at Buhoma Lodge or Mahogany Springs Lodge.

  • Main Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest
  • Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge or Mahogany Springs
  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner (Breakfast not included)
  • Drinks: Drinking Water

After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to the park headquarters for registration and joining others for a gorilla trekking briefing about the dos and the don’ts during your gorilla trek. Once this is done, you will trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the gorillas, which can take you from half an hour to three quarters of the day. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. On your trek, you are likely to spot other primates, birds and rare tree species. After finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them – it’s an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful yet endangered creatures. Afterwards you trek back to the park headquarters. You will be awarded a certificate for participating in gorilla trekking and thus contributing to the conservation of mountain gorillas.

  • Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge or Mahogany Springs
  • Meals: All Meals Included
  • Drinks: Drinking Water

Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale District. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the three lava-dammed lakes which was formed when lava flowing from one of the volcanoes blocked a river channel and water was forced to flow back hence filling the space to create Lake Bunyonyi. Bunyonyi, which locally means ‘small birds’ due to the abundance of small birds in this area, is said to be the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in East Africa. It’s known for its beauty and is one of the best place to relax after your gorilla trek. There are optional activities around the lake that you can do including canoe rides and walks.

  • Main Destination: Lake Bunyonyi
  • Accommodation: booked hotel
  • Meals: Lunch & Dinner (Breakfast not included)
  • Drinks: Drinking Water

After your breakfast, you will be driven to Kampala or Entebbe for your post tour accommodation or you may choose to fly out of Uganda today. You will use the same route enabling you to have a second stop over at the Equator. You’ll be dropped off at the airport (or hotel).
