At 1,442 square kms with scenery unsurpassed by any other park in East Africa, it’s tucked into the corner of Uganda’s border with Sudan and Kenya. The park offers breathtaking savannah landscapes and is home to a wide range of wildlife including many lions plus the rare ostrich.

Day by Day Overview

Your driver/guide will pick you up from Kampala at 6.00 am for the drive to Kidepo Valley National Park with lunch en route at Gulu town. Continue to drive past Kitgum town, through Karamoja land and on up to Kidepo Valley National Park. The park offers breathtaking savannah landscapes which end in rugged horizon. A huge latitudinal range and correspondingly wide climatic conditions have evolved an extremely diverse flora. Over 46- bird species are found here including the ostrich, kori bustard and secretary bird. Kidepo have animal species not found anywhere else in Uganda like the bat-eared fox, striped hyena, aardwolf, caracal and cheetah. In this park can see prides of lions, herds of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, eland, zebra and much more. The tour activities in the park begin the next day.

Dinner and overnight at Kidepo Savannah Lodge

After breakfast enjoy a morning game drive. Look out for African savannah wildlife such as giraffes, antelopes, lions, elephants, hyenas, buffaloes and the Uganda kobs. The splendid Kidepo River valley, dominated by borassus palm forest, startling savannah landscape and the stunning view of the Narus valley, is situated in the southwest of the park. To the north of Sudan at the Lotukei Mountains and the Morongole range which marks the southern boundary of the park and ending the trail at the Kanangorok Hot Springs with a view of wildlife that can be seen wandering around like the tall ostrich. Afterwards we will be driven back to park bandas for lunch and rest time. After lunch head out on another game drive in the evening exploring the area. See herds of buffaloes, elephants and a variety of bird including herons, or visit the Kanangorok Hot Springs.

Dinner and overnight at Kidepo Savannah Lodge

Morning and evening game drives in the park exploring different wildlife and birds in the area. Spot birds and animal species such as the cheetah, hunting dog, bat-eared fox, stripped hyena, gazelle, zebra, Rothschild’s giraffe, buffalo, elephant, jackal and antelope species including roan antelope, bush buck, bohor reed buck Jackson’s hartebeest, eland, bushbuck, waterbuck. Later return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon. In the evening you will go on a cultural tour in the Karamajong community which will enable you to spend some time with the locals when you will get to know more about their culture, way of life and beliefs. From here you will understand by the end of the tour why their pride makes them slow to adapt to the dynamic world and their love for cattle is comparable to the better known Masai of Kenya and Tanzania.

Dinner and overnight at Kidepo Savannah Lodge

After breakfast you will be driven back to Kampala, stopping on the way for lunch. Arrival will be in the evening, then head to Entebbe airport for your evening flight back home.
