On a mountain gorilla habituation activity, gorillas are trained to get used to human presence over a period of three years and from there the groups are declared for normal tracking. Currently there are two families of Bushaho and Bikyingi being trained for this experience and to be officially launched soon for tracking. Gorilla habituation is only carried out in the Southern Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Rushaga area). It is strictly four visitors per day for each family, a total of eight visitors. Our gorilla habituation package is all inclusive and we take care of the habituation permit reservations.

Day by Day Overview
A representative from Barien Safaris will pick you up from your accommodation at 7am, brief you about your habituation safari and then you set off to Bwindi. It is approximately 540km/9 hours of driving to the southern sector. The drive is quite long but worth it with much to see on the way. You may even see zebras and impalas grazing in Lake Mburo Park. You will have a stopover at the equator for photography and experiment and another stopover in Mbarara town for lunch. Continue with your journey arriving at your accommodation in the evening.
Overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Camp / Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge / Gorilla Safari Lodge
This morning marks the highlight of your Uganda safari with early breakfast at your accommodation then get ready to be transferred to the briefing point. Afterwards you will head to the starting point for your trek through the densely, steep jungle forest. One has to be physically fit for a successful trekking experience and this may take 3-8 hours or the whole day. Depending on where you will be allocated for your trek, you may start from the park headquarters or drive to a starting point in the forest. After finding the gorillas, you are only allowed to view them for one hour and you can take videos or photos of your encounter with the gorillas. Take note that feeding mountains gorillas is prohibited along with flash photography. After the experience, you will make the trek back through the forest as you reminiscent about this once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounter. Enjoy a leisurely evening at your lodge and overnight stay.
Have a relaxed breakfast on your last day in Bwindi as you prepare to travel back to Kampala with lunch en route and a stopover at the equator if you missed it on the first day. You will be dropped at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe or at the airport.
