Day by Day Overview
Meet and greet at agreed location in Dar es Salaam at 6:30am. Transfer to Mikumi by road via Morogoro, which takes about 6 hours with a lunch stop at a restaurant in Morogoro Town. Use the drive time to view the villages and rural life of Africa from the window of the car.
Once near Mikumi you will start to see groups of wild animals by the roadside such as zebras, giraffe (national symbol), and impalas. On arrival at Mikumi gates you will proceed to enter the park and start with afternoon game drives. Enjoy the game drive experience as you see African elephants, lions, wild dog, zebras, giraffes, impalas, hyenas, buffalos, wildebeests, elands, hartebeest, and other resident small animals. The park also has over 300 species of birds that have been observed.
Late afternoon you will do a game drive with sunset view and watch the animals drink water at the large hippo pool, filled with huge pods of hippos. On a warm day, you may sport crocodiles hanging around with their mouths open to avoid overheating.
Start the day with a visit to the nearby Maasai village for a fascinating cultural experience with the popular Maasai tribe of Tanzania. Listen to their stories, view their traditional way of life, and learn how start a fire without using matchstick. Return to the lodge in time for breakfast. Afterwards you will go to Mikumi National Park for a full day of game drives.
See more of the Mikumi animals today as they go about their day – lions, zebras, giraffes, impalas, kudus, elands, buffalos, elephants, hippos, crocs, and even the African wild dog and many more. Lunch will be served at the Mikumi Cottages buffet inside the park. You will return to the lodge before dark falls at Camp Bastian for dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast you will depart for your journey back to Dar es Salaam for a hotel drop off or ferry terminal drop of for beach holiday extension in Zanzibar. This marks the end of the safari experience.
