Day by Day Overview
You will be picked up from your hotel and depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park driving via Butare, the second largest city and regarded as the intellectual haven of Rwanda. Visit the National Museum of Butare and view some of the finest traditional ceramics and crafts of the region. Continue to the Nyungwe Forest National Park, arriving in time for dinner.
Spend a memorable day in the forest with the primates. An early breakfast before beginning your search for the Bonobo and Common/Robust Chimpanzee. There are only about 400 individuals of the latter in Rwanda. Your trekking time will vary depending on the weather and where the chimps are located. Should you find them, you will enjoy an amazing experience filled with excitement and intrigue as you observe the apes for up to an hour. After you will return to your lodge for lunch before relaxing for the rest of the day.
After breakfast you will proceed for the canopy walk which takes you 50 meters above the ground along a 150 meter walkway through the forest canopy. The walkway is the first of its kind in East Africa and third on the continent. It allows visitors to see the forest from above and join the monkeys and birds in the trees for eye-level sightings. Return to the lodge for lunch before driving back to Kigali.
