Tanzania

Guided, Small Group

Mid Range
This Birding & Mammals safari takes you to the northern part of Tanzania to several destinations to see birds including Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park. Tanzania is a great ornithological destination with a total of 1114 bird species recorded, 30 bird species are endemic, 44 are accidental, and four have been introduced by humans. Tanzania takes the 3rd position in Africa to host the highest number of birds hence representing more than 10% of the global avifauna. This birding safari can be booked throughout the year however the best season for this tour is during November through April. During this period, Tanzania hosts a large number of European and north African migratory birds and it is also a nesting time for resident species. Spotting birds in their breeding plumage is very easy during this season.
If you use a full-frame DSLR or mirrorless camera you will need to cover focal lengths from 200-600mm or more for most wildlife situations in Tanzania. If you use a crop-sensor camera, adjust the focal lengths accordingly. You will also find a wide angle lens good for landscape photography and a short focal length telephoto good for some wildlife situations (for example, very close elephants and other mammals, or groups of animals). There will be only limited opportunities to use a macro lens. If you bring a good quality bridge camera it will be best if it has an optical zoom of 18-20x or more, combined with a reasonable wide-angle at the other end of the zoom range.
Be sure to bring plenty of spare battery power. Dust is ever-present in northern Tanzania, so cleaning equipment is important. A beanbag can be very useful here for wildlife photography from the vehicle.
From USD 5,960 per person
The minimum age to book this safari alone is 16 years old, however we accept children from 8 years old and above if accompanied by an adult. Children under 13 years old will receive a discount. The price above may vary depending on dates booked and accommodation comfort options. Small, private groups ensure a maximum of three photographers per vehicle, ensuring you have the space you need to capture your desired images. Long lenses are not required and we recommend 80mm-400mm lenses. Please contacts us for further information in this regard.
Upon arrival in the northern city of Arusha, your driver will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your hotel. After unpacking and unwinding, take some time to head out and admire the views. Not only does this city sit at the foot of the 14,980-foot (4,566-m) Meru Volcano, but at certain places, you can also spot the snow-capped table of Kilimanjaro. Coffee lovers will want to hit a café and sample this country’s famous robusta and arabica roasts.
