Tour Overview

This safari takes you to both Uganda and Rwanda to see primates, the Big 5, and other wildlife. The safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, home to the golden monkeys, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking adventures, after which you head to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation. Continue to Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife viewing followed by Kibale National Park, the home to man’s closest cousins; the chimpanzees. Lastly, the safari takes you to Murchison Falls National Park, the largest protected area in Uganda. The safari will let you explore the wildlife around Africa’s most powerful waterfalls, by hiking to the top of the falls and on a boat cruise. Afterward, you’ll transfer to Entebbe to end the tour via Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to complete your Big 5 experience.

10-Day Uganda-Rwanda Primates and Big 5 Safari

On this lovely day as you begin your safari, you will be welcomed by a Safari Vacations & Travel Services safari guide from the airport/hotel who will drive you and share with you the entire experience for the trip. You will be able to visit the historical moments of the area, one of them being the Kigali genocide memorial center which was built to commemorate the people who lost their lives to the anti-human tragedy that befell the people of Rwanda in 1994. Depending on the time available, you’ll visit Kimironko Market and Inema Arts Center to experience the life, art, foodstuffs, and other aspects of Rwanda’s culture. Thereafter you will embark on a 3-hour journey to Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered golden monkeys.

On this day you’ll wake up for breakfast and then head to the park headquarters. You’ll be briefed about the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking. You’ll follow the lead of rangers and a guide in search of these endangered primates. After finding them, you’ll spend an hour in their presence, and then return to the lodge for lunch. Afterwards drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for the Batwa cultural experience. You’ll meet the Batwa community, whose strong connection to the forest made them fail to embrace modernization. You’ll watch traditional dances, hunting skills, making fire from sticks, and other skills. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After your morning breakfast, you will then be driven to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The rangers will then accompany you to the rainforest to start your search for the gentle giants. The gorilla trek can sometimes be strenuous, however on locating the gentle giants, the trek will seem worth it; you will be allowed to spend one hour with the primates where you will have to ask questions and take plenty of pictures before your time lapses to getting back to the lodge. After the trek, you will return to the park headquarters where you will meet up with your driver-guide to proceed with the journey to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation.

On this day, you’ll wake up and have breakfast, and then embark on a canoe cruise on Lake Bunyonyi. The cruise will allow you to explore the many islands on the lake, some with their unique history, while the nature and beauty of the lake will fascinate you. Afterwards you’ll embark on a 3-4 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You’ll have lunch en route, arriving in the evening or late afternoon. Upon arrival, you’ll embark on a game drive in the park allowing you to see various animals like elephants, hippos, buffalos, vervet monkeys, kobs, deer, bushbucks, warthogs, and many others.

This morning you will head back to the plains of Kasenyi for a morning game drive and try to find what you could have missed the previous evening. Lunch will be served at the lodge and after you will drive to the jetty along the Kazinga channel for the afternoon boat cruise. This cruise offers you chances to view animals like hippos, water birds, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, and much other wildlife that come to the channel for drinking water. The channel is famous for having the highest concentration of hippos in the world. After that, you’ll return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

After early morning breakfast, check out of your lodge, and drive to the northern bank of Queen Elizabeth National Park (Kasenyi) area for an en-route game drive in search of wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, cats, savanna birds, and deferent species of antelopes such as waterbuck and Uganda kobs among others. You will have lunch en-route and then drive to Kibale Forest National Park arriving at your lodge in the late afternoon.

This morning after breakfast you will drive to the park headquarters to join other trackers for a briefing about the dos and don’ts while in the forest. Afterwards you will be taken for your chimpanzee tracking through Kibale Forest National Park. During this walk, you may have the chance to see some of the 13 different primate species native to Kibale Forest National Park. After finding them, you’ll stay in their presence for an hour. You can use this time for taking pictures, recording videos, and examining their characteristics. After trekking, you’ll have your packed lunch, you will drive to Bigodi for a community walk where you interact directly with the people neighboring the National Park and see the different primates and birds in the wetland.

Today you’ll have breakfast and dDrive to Murchison Falls National Park with lunch en-route in either Hoima or Masindi. You drive through small towns and villages, and great scenery with views of the escarpment of the Rift Valley. Upon arrival, you’ll hike to the top of the falls for magnificent views of the world’s most powerful waterfall. You’ll see how the Nile River forces itself through an 8-meter gorge, producing a roaring sound.  Then check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After early morning breakfast, drive to the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park popularly known as Paraa for your morning game drive that will provide you an opportunity to spot wild game that may include, giraffes, buffaloes, elephants, different antelopes, hippos, and if lucky cats such as lions and leopards. Return to the lodge for a lunch break and then after driving to the pier for your two-hour boat cruise to the bottom of the falls to witness how the river Nile squeezes itself in a narrow gorge of 8 meters before exploding out producing an experience of a lifetime. You’ll see many animals including buffalos, elephants, warthogs hippos, crocodiles, and many others cooling off.  After your boat cruise return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, you will return to Kampala/Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight. You’ll pass via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking. This will mark the end of our 10-Day Uganda-Rwanda Primate and Big 5 Safari.
