Camping, Mid Range
Your safari will start at Livingstone Airport where on arrival you will be met by a member of our safari team who will transport you to Maramba Lodge for an overnight stay. The next morning you will begin your mobile safari which will take you to some of Zambia’s most remote safari destinations. Each destination is unique in its offering and experience. You will encounter Liuwa Plains conservation success story, home to the second biggest wildebeest migration in the world. This park, famous for its hyena clans and resilient lion populations, is a unique experience from beginning to end. After your Liuwa visit you will travel to Kasonso, which is located right in the heart of the Busanga Plains, a prime game viewing area in the Kafue National Park, perfectly situated to see large numbers of red lechwe, but is also well known for the big lions, buffalo, elephant, wildebeest and relaxed roan.
From USD 4,820 per person
Arrive in Livingstone Airport where you will be met and transferred to Maramba River Camp, ideally located for your overnight stop, just 4 km from Victoria Falls. It provides a most attractive year-round accommodation base in a shaded woodland setting overlooking the Maramba River. Enjoy your overnight stay, accommodated in their safari chalets.
Day 2 will be an early start, leaving Livingstone and travelling to Mongu Town, the capital of Western Zambia, which is situated 500 km north of Livingstone en- route to Liuwa Plains. Our travel route to get there, will take you past villages, varying landscapes and on certain stretches of road, meander close to the Zambezi River, offering you an interesting drive as you take in the sights and sounds of Zambian culture. Upon arrival at Mongu, you will settle in and overnight in a guest house, before departing for Liuwa Plains the following morning.
After breakfast you will leave for Kalabo in a northwesterly direction to stay in one of Africa’s oldest national parks, Liuwa Plains. It is not a long drive to Kalabo and on entering the park, it will take around an hour and a half to reach our designated campsite where we will set up a mobile camp in the heart of the plains. The park itself is characterised by a spectacular flat landscape with wide-open spaces and the seasonally flooded Zambezi floodplain is dotted with slightly elevated wooded islands. On day 3 you will enjoy a full day game drive and on day 4, morning and afternoon drives. As the sun starts to set over the plains, you will most certainly hear the whoop of a hyena when sitting around the campfire. It is believed that there are around 350 individuals in the park and they are considered to be the apex predators here! Other species of fauna include lion, cheetah and wild dog. But at the right time of the year, it’s the wildebeest migration that will be committed to memory.
On day 6 we will pack up early and set off for Mayukuyuku Campsite near Hook Bridge, retracing our path back over the Kalabo Bridge down to Mongu. After Mongu we travel the M9 for about 300 kms in an easterly direction, entering the Kafue National Park north of Lake Itezhi – Tezhi with a short drive to the Mayukuyuku Campsite for one night. This camp, located on the banks of the Kafue River is a good option as a stop over on route to the Busanga Plains.
On day 7 of your adventure, you will drive northwards towards the famous Busanga Plains. The transfer will take approximately 4 hours and will take you through the Kafue National Park. After settling in to your chalet you will end the day with a night drive. On day 7 you will have the opportunity to do a morning and afternoon activity. The Busanga Plains is undoubtedly the best place for wildlife viewing in Kafue National Park and Kasonso – our bushcamp – is located right in the heart of the prime game viewing area. The Busanga Plains area is perfectly situated to see large numbers of red lechwe, but is also well known for the big prides of lions, buffalo, elephant, wildebeest and relaxed roan antelope.
We shall transfer you to Lusaka on this last day, to meet your flight or for you to stay over there.
