Kingfisher Journeys is proud to be the first operator in Rwanda to provide professionally guided kayaking and canoeing journeys on the lakes and rivers of this beautiful country. We began in September 2015 and are committed to delivering high quality services to all our customers and partners. However, we hope that this will achieve more than simply giving our clients a brilliant experience. In addition to creating new employment opportunities for our Rwandan guides and other staff, we are also engaging with, purchasing services from and supporting rural communities wherever we go and with sustainability fundamental to our ethos, we keep our environmental footprint low.
Set in the shadow of the Virunga Volcanoes and the Albertine branch of the African Rift Valley, this is a fantastic adventure full of amazing wildlife, spectacular scenery and beautiful insights into a proud African nation. Starting in Kigali, the vibrant capital city, you’ll journey to one of the oldest continuously forested ecosystems on the […]
This Rwanda kayaking safari is the most rewarding way to travel from Gisenyi to Kibuye. Paddling quietly along the coastline, at Cyimbili see the life cycle of Rwanda’s famous coffee industry, from islands covered with bushes to a cup of delicious coffee. Our next stop is at Kinunu where there is a small guesthouse and […]
Whether you’re looking for an individual activity or a full itinerary we can create tailor-made options for individuals, couples and families as well as set up fixed or bespoke trips for groups, schools and large expeditions. All our activities are run with professional, qualified local guides using top quality equipment that make our adventures some of the most authentic, rewarding and interesting things to do in Africa.
We have trips and options that will be perfect for you whether you have no previous outdoors experience, you’re looking for a short, gentle tour or if you’re excited by going on a big adventure.
And there is something very special here: Lake Kivu is the largest lake in Africa that naturally has no hippos or crocodiles at all making it the safest body of water for kayaking anywhere in the continent! This means that whilst there are spectacularly located lodges, hotels and small guesthouses to stay in we also camp right next to the water on small uninhabited islands. It’s a very special place.
