This 8-Day Uganda Primates and Big 5 Safari takes you to the most visited national parks in the country. You’ll trek primates in their natural habitats; gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and chimpanzees in Kibale National Park. Also, you’ll have wildlife encounters on game drives and boat trips in both Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park. You’ll complete the Big 5 experience by visiting Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking as you head back to Entebbe.

Day by Day Overview

Your driver-guide from Safari Vacations and Travel Services will welcome you at the airport. You’ll then embark on the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with stopovers at the Equator crossing and in one of the towns along the way for lunch. You’ll arrive at the lodge, check in, and relax as you wait for the adventure the day after.

  • Dinner and overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Four Gorillas Lodge (upgrade)

On this day, you’ll wake up, have breakfast, and head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch. You’ll undergo a briefing about gorilla trekking, after which you’ll be assigned a gorilla family to track. You’ll then follow a ranger and guide to the forest in search of the gorillas. Once found you spend an hour in their presence before you head back to the starting point. You’ll then embark on a journey to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

  • Dinner and overnight at Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Birdnest Resort (upgrade)

Enjoy a morning canoe cruise on Lake Bunyonyi to explore its beauty and history of some of the islands on the lake. After that, you’ll check out of the lodge and embark on a journey to the most popular park in Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park. You’ll pass through its southern sector, Ishasha, to look out for tree-climbing lions. Proceed to the northern sector, where you’ll check in at the lodge and relax.

  • Dinner and overnight at Enshama Game Lodge or Buffalo Safari Lodge (upgrade)

Head out in the savannah plains after an early morning breakfast. You’ll see many animals  including elephants, Uganda kobs, warthogs, bushbucks, waterbucks, leopards, lions, buffalos, and many others. Afterwards, return to the jetty and enjoy a boat cruise on Kazinga channel. The highest concentration of hippos in the world is on this river. You’ll see other animals that will be quenching their thirst. Return to the lodge for lunch, and then head to Kibale National Park for dinner and overnight.

  • Dinner and overnight at Kibale Forest Lodge or Turaco Treetops Lodge  (upgrade)

You’ll wake up, have breakfast, and head to the briefing point. After the briefing, you will be divided into groups to visit a chimpanzee community. The trek is physically demanding, therefore you need to have a reasonable level of physical fitness. After finding them, you will spend an hour in their presence, after which you’ll return to the starting point. You’ll have lunch before you go for the Bigodi swamp walk and learn about the role played by the local communities in the conservation of tourism resources. You’ll also see several other primates and birds such as the great blueturaco.

  • Dinner and overnight at Kibale Forest Lodge or Turaco Treetops Lodge  (upgrade)

You’ll have breakfast and then check out of the lodge for the journey to Murchison Falls National Park. You’ll have lunch en route in either Masindi or Hoima. Continue to the park, after which you’ll hike to the top of the falls upon arrival. You’ll witness the great phenomenon where the Murchison Falls squeezes itself into an 8-meter gorge before spreading out. Head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

  • Dinner and overnight at Parkside Safari Lodge or Pakuba Safari Lodge (upgrade)

Wake up and have an early morning breakfast. Head out for a game drive in the park where you can look for four of the big 5 animals – lions, leopards, buffalos and elephants. You’ll also see other animals like giraffes, warthogs, Uganda kobs, and many others. Return to the lodge for lunch and then head to the jetty for an afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. The boat cruise will allow you to see water animals like hippos, crocodiles, and monitor lizards. You’ll see other animals that come to cool off during the hot hours of the day. These include buffalo, elephants, warthogs, and others. You’ll also witness the phenomenon where the Victoria Nile spreads wide into the river. After that, you will head back to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

After breakfast set off on the journey to Entebbe. You’ll pass via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you’ll visit the rhinos in their natural habitat. Afterwards continue with the journey back to Entebbe. Here your guide will say goodbye and mark the end of the tour.
