Upon arrival at Bujumbura international airport, you will meet our guide who will welcome you and brief you about you stay in Burundi. After the briefing, you will be transferred to your hotel in Bujumbura and, if you arrive in the morning time, we will proceed with a Bujumbura city tour.
After your breakfast, we will go to Busekera pygmy village situated on the edge of the Kibira Forest, just 4 km from the crossroads of the Bugarama town. Here you will experience the semi-nomadic pygmy people, known for their great skills in hunting and dancing. They are believed to be the original inhabitants of Burundi. Over the past 50 years, the Batwa has been evicted from the forests of Burundi. They have been displaced in mass to support the creation of national parks and the establishment of tea plantations and other farms. They make a small minority of all the people in Burundi, just 1% of the entire population. They live in straw huts, which can host an entire family. You will just learn about their lifestyles and participate in the pottery making, see how women sell traditional clay cooking pots to survive, and as a result, pottery has become the key symbol of modern pygmy identity. Later, we will drive a little way to Gitega and stay at Tropitel Hotel.
After your breakfast, you will visit Gishora drum sanctuary and be welcomed by royal drummers. You will be astonished by their rapid jumping in the air and how talented they are. You will just learn and imitate how to beat drums and dance. Later, we will visit the Gitega National Museum to learn about Burundian ethnography. Afterwards there is a 2-hour drive to Kayanza where we stay at Le Paradis Hotel.
After your breakfast, we will go to explore the kingdom graves and learn about the rites associated with a king’s burial and how their succession proceeded. Burundi recognized about seven kings all of the same dynasty. Learning about this precolonial history, will give you the true image of Burundi kingdom and the republic of Burundi. Later on we will drive a little bit to Ngozi where we will enjoy a Ngozi city tour before we continue our way to Kirundo.
After your breakfast, we will proceed with Intore warriors dance experience before we proceed to boat ride in the Lac Aux Oiseaux. Later, we will drive about 2 hours to get to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight.
