Day by Day Overview

We will pick you up early in the morning from Maun and head for the Okavango Delta to meet with experienced mokoro polers. The Okavango Delta, one of Africa’s last great unspoiled wilderness, is situated in the northern reaches of Botswana. It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert. It then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16 000 square–kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.

Boarding your mokoro around 0800 hrs, you will silently be poled along the quiet waterways to one of the Okavango’s many islands where you will set up camp for two nights. You will set off on foot at this island as soon as the heat of the day relents, on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta. Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras and more.

Wake up early in the morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta. As you explore the Okavango on foot you will once again be searching for game as the Okavango is world famous for its rich biodiversity. These safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community that lives on the fringes the Delta. On these outings you may come across a combination of game animals and you will also be presented with excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango. It is possible to spot game including elephants, hippos and zebras during these safari walks.

Come back from the safari walk around midday to chill and enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon you will set off once again to explore the Delta either on foot or in a mokoro. Return to camp in the late afternoon to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.

Wake up early morning for a light breakfast and set off with your guide for your last morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta. Return to camp after the morning excursion and wrap up your mokoro safari having immersed yourself within the spirit of African adventure. You will silently be poled back to the mokoro station for a pick up by your safari guide.

You will board your safari vehicle and make the journey northwards to Moremi Game Reserve for a two-night stay. Contained within an area of approximately 3900 square kilometers, Moremi boasts of diverse ecosystems ranging from floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian forests, riverine to mophane woodland, thus making Moremi one of the prime game viewing and bird watching areas of the world. Your days will be spent searching for the wide variety of wildlife and birds that this area is famous for. At the same time you will be absorbing the sounds and beauty of the African wilderness.

Wake up this morning to a very early breakfast before heading into Moremi for your morning game drive. In the mophane scrub, look out for large herds of African elephants while in the waterways you should look out for pods of hippopotami. On the open plains you should keep an eye on for large herds of the Cape buffalo. You will also be looking out for the elusive African wild dogs, lions and the elusive leopard as well as the raptors such as the mighty martial eagle, tawny eagle, the majestic African fish eagle and that incredible aviator–the bateleur and many others

In the afternoon you will set off once again in your safari vehicle for more birding and game viewing. Return to camp just before sunset to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire cooked dinner. You have two nights at a wilderness campsite to marvel at this exceedingly diverse reserve that offers an untouched wildlife experience.

Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will board your safari vehicle and set off with your guide for your last morning safari drive as you head out of Moremi Game Reserve. Then return to Maun where the safari officially ends upon arrival in Maun today. Your guide will take you to your place of lodging/airport whereupon he will then bid you farewell and return to base.
