Day by Day Overview

You will be collected in Maun and head to the Okavango Delta to meet with experienced mokoro polers. The Okavango Delta, one of Africa’s last great unspoiled wilderness, is situated in the northern reaches of Botswana. It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert when then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16 000 square–kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.

You will board your mokoro around 0800 hrs and will silently be poled along the Okavango Delta’s quiet waterways to one of its many islands where you will set up camp for two nights. You will set off on foot at this island as soon as the heat of the day relents on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta. Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras and more.

Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your morning safari walk. As you explore the Okavango Delta on foot you will once again be searching for game in this area of rich biodiversity. The safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community which live on the fringes of the Delta. On these outings you may come across a combination of game such as elephant, hippo and, zebra as well as excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango. Come back from the safari walk around midday to chill and enjoy your lunch. In the afternoon you will set off once again to explore further either on foot or in a mokoro. You will return to camp in the late afternoon to have a shower and afterwards enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.

Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your last morning safari walk or mokoro excursion in the Okavango Delta. Return to camp at the end of today’s excursion having immersed yourself within the spirit of African adventure. You will then be poled along the quiet waterways of the Okavango Delta back to the mokoro station where you board your safari vehicle and head back to Maun. The safari officially ends upon arrival in Maun today. Your guide will take you to your place of lodging/airport whereupon he will then bid you farewell and return to base.
