Day by Day Overview

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon your arrival, an All Wheels Experience representative will warmly greet you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you’ll have the opportunity to relax and unwind, getting ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

Arusha is a bustling hub in northern Tanzania, often serving as the gateway to the region’s incredible safari experiences. Most travelers pass through this vibrant town at some point on their journey, making it an essential stop for your Tanzanian adventure.

Your All Wheels Experience safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation after breakfast. This morning, you’ll head to Tarangire National Park, a two-and-a-half-hour drive on well-maintained tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, a vital water source for the region’s wildlife during the dry season, often referred to as the “river of warthogs.”

Tarangire is renowned for its large elephant herds, frequently spotted gathering near the riverbanks. In addition to elephants, you may encounter giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests, all closely followed by predators such as lions and leopards. With more bird species than any other park in the world, Tarangire is a paradise for bird lovers. The park’s landscape is dotted with massive, ancient baobab trees, some over a thousand years old.

You’ll enjoy lunch at a scenic picnic site within the park before continuing your game drive. Afterward, we’ll head to Karatu for dinner and your overnight stay at your accommodation.

After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There will be a chance to stop and see the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. You will then transit through Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti National Park, entering at the South of the Park. The Serengeti is truly spectacular. It is famous for its vast open grasslands which allow for excellent sightings of wildlife. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife such as impala, buffalo, crocodile, and hippo. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators and you may see lion, cheetah and leopard.

Another day set aside for game drives in the Serengeti. It is possible to have a more relaxed pace, and do early morning and late afternoon game drives, returning to your accommodation for lunch and some relaxation. Every day is different in the Serengeti and there is always plenty to explore.

After breakfast, we’ll make our way through the Serengeti towards Ndutu, taking time to stop and immerse ourselves in the incredible sights along the way! While the Serengeti is renowned for its abundant wildlife, it’s perhaps most famous for the annual Great Migration. Each year, vast numbers of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope follow a dynamic path in search of fresh grazing. The migration can be observed at various times throughout the year; it’s all about knowing where to look!

During this time, the Migration is typically located in the Southern Serengeti/Ndutu area, which is actually part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. One of the main highlights here is Lake Ndutu, an alkaline lake like many others in the Rift Valley, which serves as a vital source of water for wildlife.

Your overnight accommodation will be at a mid-range seasonal tented camp, offering a comfortable and immersive experience in the heart of this stunning landscape.

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll set out for a full day of exhilarating game drives in Ndutu. You’ll have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of habitats, including swamps, woodlands, and savannahs. With a bit of luck, you may witness vast herds of wildebeest, zebras, and antelope stretching as far as the eye can see, accompanied by the hauntingly beautiful sound of the wildebeest gently mooing.

In February, a remarkable event takes place as many female wildebeests give birth in a synchronized manner, resulting in over half a million calves entering the world in a short period. The grass provides minimal cover, making the young calves vulnerable to various predators such as cheetahs, lions, hyenas, and leopards. Remarkably, wildebeest calves can stand and run just minutes after birth, and by three days old, they are typically strong enough to keep up with the herd.

After an exciting day of exploration and wildlife encounters, you’ll return to your tented camp just in time for dinner, where you can reflect on the day’s adventures under the African sky.

This morning, you will gently make your way through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you may encounter a variety of wildlife along the route, including the iconic journey of giraffes gracefully moving across the lush slopes. You should arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater by lunchtime.

As you first glimpse the Ngorongoro Crater, it appears as a hidden world, cradled by steep volcanic walls that shelter a pristine wilderness. Within its depths, you’ll find sweeping savannahs, pockets of acacia woodlands, and glistening lakes and swamps. Formed two to three million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed, the Crater is a geological wonder.

The drive down into the Crater is an adventure in itself. Once you reach the Crater floor, you’ll quickly find yourself surrounded by large numbers of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and over 500 bird species. This unique ecosystem provides the best opportunity to spot the endangered black rhino, which can occasionally be seen grazing in the open grasslands.

After an exciting afternoon of game driving, you’ll depart for your accommodation in Karatu, where you can unwind and reflect on the day’s extraordinary experiences.

This morning, you will embark on a drive to Lake Manyara National Park, your final destination on this incredible safari adventure! Located just 120 km west of Arusha, Lake Manyara is a compact yet diverse park, known for its stunning landscapes and rich wildlife.

As one of the narrowest parks in Africa, it offers an epic backdrop with the Great Rift Escarpment towering over the western boundary. The park’s namesake, a shallow salt lake, covers a significant portion of the area, flooding and drying with the seasons. This dynamic environment is home to thousands of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.

As you explore the park, keep an eye out for baboons and elephants in the thick evergreen forests, and don’t miss the chance to spot the famous tree-climbing lions that have captured the imagination of visitors worldwide.

You will enjoy a delightful picnic lunch within the park, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

After your thrilling game drive, you will be dropped off at your preferred location, whether it be Arusha, Kilimanjaro Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you have cherished every moment of your adventure with All Wheels Experience!
