Day by Day Overview

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, our VIP Visa Specialist will meet and welcome you to East Africa. He guides you through the entire Tanzania visa application process, skipping long immigration queues. You will be escorted from arrival to departure, making your arrival to Tanzania completely worry-free. Upon exiting the airport, a Galloping Safaris representative will transfer you to Arusha (45 minutes) and the Gran Melia Hotel. This charming hotel has beautiful views of Mount Meru and is the ideal place to acclimatize to Africa. Visit the markets of nearby Arusha or simply relax in the poolside gardens with a chilled drink. On cool winter evenings, get cosy next to a fireplace and sip one of the best coffees you will ever taste.

Overnight: Gran Melia Hotel

Depart at 08h00 from Arusha in a 4×4 for the drive to Lake Manyara National Park, home to an alkaline lake and breathtaking views. Here you will view a wide variety of wildlife and the acacia woodlands offer the best overall wildlife viewing in the park. Enjoy your picnic lunches under the acacia trees. This habitat is favored by the park’s famous tree-climbing lions as well as leopards, giraffes and the greatest elephant concentration in East Africa. Algae thrive in the high saline content of the lake. Huge and colorful flocks of birds gather in the water to feed, including many different varieties of birds that coexist together. In fact, well over 300 different species of birds have been recorded here, continue with afternoon game drive and later drive to the lush retreat of Escarpment Luxury Lodge for cocktails, dinner and overnight.

Dinner and overnight: Escarpment Luxury Lodge

Breakfast then drive to Serengeti National Park with a brief visit en route to Olduvai Gorge, which is often referred to as ‘The Cradle of Mankind’ and is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world. Enjoy a picnic lunch then proceed to Serengeti National Park, with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species.

Dinner and overnight: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge

Early breakfast then a full day of game drives in Serengeti National Park. The park, its name from the Maasai word Siringitu meaning endless plain, is located along the rift valley and is abound with geological formations. One of Serengeti’s defining features are its kopjes (pronounced copy), a feature of continual weathering. These islands in the sea of grass are formed as the top soil comprising of rock and ash is eroded exposing the covered layer of metamorphic rock. These exposed rock forms, kopjes, are round as a result of spherical wind weathering. The national park covers an area of 14800 square kilometres most of which is grass plains. These rich grass plains are a result of ash deposited by volcanic eruptions, and provide a home to 3 million animals. Within these grass plains the scattered kopjes act as a heaven for animals from grass fires, predators and the heat. The game drives in this park are exceptional and game viewing incredible, offering the best opportunity of viewing cheetah, leopard and lion.

Dinner and overnight: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge

Today you will explore the famous Ngorongoro Crater during a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater. Often described as one of Africa’s ‘Garden of Eden’, Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck, the Big Five can be spotted during one game drive only. Later drive to the lush retreat of Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp for sundowners. The ever-inviting fireplace pit by the campfire where the Swahili lessons with fun are offered by our staff.

Dinner and overnight: Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp

Depart at 08h30 from Arusha in a 4×4 vehicle and drive to Tarangire National Park, a unique place with some of Tanzania’s largest populations of elephant and diverse scenery, including the dramatic baobab trees that are so typical of the park. Enjoy a picnic lunch near a stretch of the Tarangire River. More game drives until the end of the day when you drive to Tarangire Eco Science Lodge for dinner and overnight. However, it is the pure delight and sheer pleasure of luxury tents that will remain with you for years to come, and will keep you returning, if only in spirit, to this delightfully dreamlike lodge. Sunset Hill is the perfect location to sit atop and enjoy the deep orange sunsets that often welcome in the starry skies. With food and drinks served by the staff, this is truly a magical experience not to be missed.

Dinner and overnight: Tarangire Eco Science Lodge

Enjoy breakfast with fine views before your final morning in the Tarangire ecosystem with an en-route game drive that may turn up any number of cat family or mammals on the plains. Drive back to Arusha for a well deserved lunch at Butter & Scotch Sable Squire. After lunch transfer back you to Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for check in for your departure flight.
