Day by Day Overview

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you will be met then leave the airport for Nairobi and excursions at the Giraffe Center followed by lunch at a recommended restaurant nearby. Thereafter you’ll be taken to the Ibis Styles Hotel Nairobi.

Nairobi is Kenya’s capital city, the only city in the world that has a national park in its urban setting. Nairobi National Park is a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos as well as home to giraffes, zebras and lions. Next door is a well-regarded elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and there are a host of other attractions such as the Giraffe Center and the Nairobi Orphanage which holds all types of wild animals and bird life.

Overnight at Ibis Styles Hotel Nairobi

At 08:00 depart from the hotel for the journey to Aberdare National Park. Arrive at the Aberdare Country Club in Nyeri. After lunch, the buses for The Ark collect guests, and after check in enjoy a safari in Aberdare National Park.

Aberdare National Park provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others. Rare sightings include those of the giant forest hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wildcat, African civet cat and the blue duiker. Visitors can enjoy picnics, trout fishing in the rivers and camping in the moorlands. Bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds in the park, including the Jackson’s francolin, sparrow hawks, goshawks, eagles, sunbirds and plovers.

Early in the morning depart for Lake Bogoria National Reserve, arriving at the Lake Bogoria Spa Resort in time for lunch. After lunch, depart for a late afternoon game drive in the reserve to see the flamingoes.

Lake Bogoria lies in a trough below the Ngendelel Escarpment, a sheer wall 600 metres (2,000 ft) high. The lake covers 32 square kilometres (12 sq mi) and is alkaline, feeding blue-green algae, which in turn feeds flamingoes. It is geothermically active on the western shore, with geysers and hot springs. The geologist J.W. Gregory described the lake in 1892 as “the most beautiful view in Africa”. The reserve is in a semi-arid area and the only major river feeding the lake is the Waseges River, which rises on the northern slopes of the Aberdare Range. The lake is surrounded by grasslands dotted with bushes while there is acacia-ficus woodland to the south and the north merges into a papyrus swamp. Lake Bogoria National Reserve was opened in November 1970.

Dinner and overnight at Merica Hotel Nakuru

At 08.00 am depart for Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon spent at leisure. You can choose to take a boat ride tour of the lake (payable directly at the hotel).

Lake Naivasha is a freshwater lake in Kenya, outside the town of Naivasha in Nakuru County, which lies north west of Nairobi. Part of the Great Rift Valleym the name derives from the local Maasai name Nai’posha, meaning “rough water” because of the sudden storms which can arise. The lake is home to a variety of wildlife including over 400 different species of bird and a sizeable population of hippos. Between 1937 and 1950, the lake was used as a landing place for flying boats on the Imperial Airways passenger and mail route from Southampton in Britain to South Africa.

Depart for the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the early morning, arriving in time for lunch at the camp or lodge. Check in then head out for a late afternoon game drive.

The Maasai Mara National is a large game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, bordering the expansive Serengeti National Park in Mara Region, Tanzania. It is named in honor of the Maasai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar: “Mara,” which is Maa (Maasai language) stands for “spotted,” an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the area. It is renowned for its exceptional population of lions, leopards and cheetahs as well as the annual migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration, which is also one of the Seven New Wonders of the World.

Wake up early and have breakfast (06:30-08:30 am) then at 09:00 am depart for a full day game drive with packed picnic lunches to enjoy surrounded by nature. Return to your accommodation at at 4 pm.

Today there’s an option to do an amazing early morning balloon ride with breakfast in the bush afterwards (extra cost).

At 08:00 am leave for Nairobi with lunch en-route. Arrival in Nairobi at about 3 pm, proceed for the airport depending on departure time.
