Tour Overview

This safari takes you to some of Rwanda’s most impressive sights; Akagera and Volcanoes National Parks and the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhonda. Experiences include gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking and a visit to the famous Gorilla Guardians village former Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. On game drives you might see lion, elephant, buffalo, topi, eland, Masai giraffe, roan antelope as well as fantastic bird life including water dwelling birds such as the rare shoebill stork and papyrus gonolecks explored on the boat cruise on Lake Ihema.

Day by Day Overview

On arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be warmly welcomed by a Vazquez Tours & Travel representative. They will brief you about your tour in Rwanda and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Arrive at Kigali Serena Hotel for an overnight stay and dinner.

07:30 breakfast at the hotel followed by a city tour of Kigali, one of the cleanest and friendliest cities in Africa. The tour offers in-depth knowledge of Kigali’s bitter past and its bright future assuring that you feel a connection with the vibrant city’s heartbeat. Lunch at one of the best restaurants in town. After lunch, our tour guide will drive you to Akagera National Park in the eastern part of Rwanda, a 2.5 hour drive from Kigali. On arrival transfer to park headquarters for registration and then proceed on a boat ride on Lake Ihema. Afterwards, the driver guide will transfer you to Ruzizi Tented Lodge for check in, dinner and overnight.

After an early 06:30 breakfast at the hotel proceed on a game drivein Akagera National Park. Plenty of animals can be seen including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, rhinos and crocodiles as well as other mammal species. Known as one of the most scenic savannahs in East Africa, the game drive in Akagera National Park provides you with opportunity to view gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. Lucky visitors might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a stray lion. Giraffes and zebras haunt the savannah and more than a dozen types of antelope inhabit the park, most commonly the handsome chestnut-coated impala and the world’s largest antelope, the statuesque cape eland. Have lunch en-route and in the afternoon exit with more game viewing en route. Transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze – Kinigi in the north western side of the country. Arrive at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel for check in, dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast at 06:00, your driver guide will transfer your to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and briefing. Your driver guide will assist and facilitate with identifying a gorilla family to visit. Tracking can be between 90 minutes and 6 hours depending on what family group is assigned. Once you find the family, you will spend one hour with the gorillas, sometimes moving around to stay with the gorillas or following them. The guide will ensure you are in the best spots to take the most beautiful pictures and experience this breathtaking experience properly. You will then drive back to the hotel for lunch and refreshment. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the twin lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhonda, which are are separated by a 1 km wide strip of land. These beautiful lakes are located at the base of Volcano Muhabura, close to the border with Uganda in the northern part of Rwanda. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay

At 06:30 after breakfast, report to the park headquarters for your second experience with an endangered species in the Volcanoes National Park, the golden monkeys. It is normally an easy trek which might take between 45 minutes to 2 hours. You will then drive back to your hotel for lunch and refreshment. In the afternoon, you will visit Gorilla Guardians former Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, which displays a traditional lifestyle of a Rwandan. This includes dress code, food growing, processing and preparation, traditional wedding ceremonies and interpersonal relationships within the community. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel then relax at the hotel, reflecting on your experience in Rwanda. After lunch at your hotel, drive back to Kigali city, stopping over at a couple of craft shops to buy souvenirs. Proceed to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
