Day by Day Overview

Matukio Safaris representative will pick you from your place of arrival (Arusha Airport, Kilimanjaro International Airport or bus station) and transferred to Arusha Mvuli Hotel for overnight stay. You will settle your safari payments on arrival at the hotel.

Arusha Mvuli Hotel: located 3 km from the centre of Arusha. It is comfortable and affordable to guests visiting this part of Tanzania. The available facilities onsite include swimming pool, satellite TV, restaurant and parking on premises. All rooms have bath and toilet inside the room.

Wake up early morning to enjoy breakfast and there will be a safari briefing before the tour. After that, an experienced driver guide will transfer you from Arusha Mvuli Hotel to Tarangire National Park for a full day game drive with picnic lunch and then evening drive to Karatu. The group will overnight at Olea Africa Lodge at Karatu, which has a swimming pool to cool off in.

Tarangire National Park is home to three rare species of animals, the greater kudu, fringe-eared oryx and ashy starlings. The park’s vegetation consists mainly of acacia woodland, giant African  baobab trees, and huge swamp areas as well as the Tarangire River and low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. The river and swamps act like a magnet for the local wildlife during the dry season in Tanzania. The sixth largest national park in Tanzania, Tarangire is located in the Manyara Region while its name originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park.

Olea Africa Lodge: located in Karatu, it is 145 km from Arusha city on the main road to Ngorongoro and Serengeti National Park. The available facilities include swimming pool and  restaurant. All rooms have bath and toilet inside the room.

After breakfast, the group will depart to Serengeti National Park with picnic lunches for a full day game drive. During the afternoon, the group will go on a game drive in Serengeti National Park along the Sogore River circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River. After the game drive, the group will enjoy dinner and stay overnight at the Seronera campsite. During the night, there are wild sounds that will seduce your soul.

Serengeti is the largest national park in the world, renowned for its natural features, landscape, and the endless plains of savannah grasslands horizon. It’s well-known for its huge annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. From Seronera River valley, you will spot animals such as leopard, gazelle, topi, ostrich, flamingos, lovebirds, cheetah and much more.

There is an optional value added service to visit the Olduvai Gorge, where you can explore the footprints and skull of homo habilis.

Seronera Public Campstine: one of the most famed campsites in Tanzania for animal encounters. It is located in the Central Serengeti area known as Seronera. There are often nocturnal animals passing through the campsite during the night. The facilities available include shared hot showers, bathrooms, eating area and solar powered electricity. The campsite is not fenced; you should move around with caution.

We will offer you an ideal opportunity to do an optional but unforgettable hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti, followed by a delightful champagne breakfast (available at a supplementary cost, but can be booked in advance).

After breakfast we head to the south-eastern side of the park, visiting the Barafu Kopjes and the Ngare Nanyuki River area, for our morning and afternoon game drives. Apart from the lion prides you find in the area, the Barafu Kopjes is the place to visit for possible cheetah sightings. The Ngare Nanyuki River area is also well known for being packed with game. Evening drive back to the campsite for dinner and overnight stay in a dome tent.

After early morning breakfast the group departs for Ngorongoro Crater. Descend to the floor of the crater for a game drive where you will be able to see the jaw-dropping beauty of the world’s largest volcanic caldera, full of grassland, forest and swamp. The permanent water of the crater floor supports a resident population of more than 25,000 large mammals. From there you will encounter animals such as elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, jackals, wallowing hippos, waterbucks, baboons, and even the rare black rhinos which find shelter there.

The Maasai share this awesome space with the animals, grazing their cattle in an area which has been a separate conservation area since 1956, and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978. This harmonious co-habitation of man and beast makes Ngorongoro unique in Tanzania and the driver guide will be pleased to explain this incredible co-existence to you. During the afternoon, the group will enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater before driving to Karatu for dinner and overnight at Olea Africa Lodge.

After breakfast drive back to Arusha and your driver guide will drop you to the airport or bus station. We are kindly looking forward to welcoming you back again with friends and family.
