Day by Day Overview

Pick up from your accommodation in Arusha and drive further through the Masai Steppe via Makuyuni Junction and down to Tarangire National Park. The fifth-largest park in Tanzania, Tarangire National Park is dotted with amazingly big baobab trees and extraordinary large herds of elephants – Tarangire is not to be missed while on your African safari if you are a lover of the jumbos or other large game. The park is home to many animal species and some rare breeds like the oryx and hirolas, as well as some rare birds species. Late afternoon drive to Mto wa Mbu and for overnight stay.

  • Overnight at Fanaka Lodge
  • Meals plan: Dinner / breakfast / packed lunch

After breakfast, drive towards the Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, you will proceed into the heart of wild Africa. Drive into the central park area known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. You will arrive in time for a picnic lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park.

  • Overnight at Osero Serengeti Tented Camp
  • Meals plan: Dinner / breakfast / packed lunch

After breakfast, enjoy game viewing drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, and which is good for possible lion, Thomson’s gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah sightings. The Visitor Centre close to the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive. In the afternoon, you will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink.

  • Overnight at Osero Serengeti Tented Camp
  • Meals plan: Dinner / breakfast / packed lunch

After breakfast head to Ngorongoro Crater and descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro crater floor exploring over 2,500 species of fauna and flora found here. Black rhinos, hippos and prides of lion and much more can be seen in the crater. Later enjoy your packed lunch in the crater possibly overlooking the hippo pool. After lunch continue with the game drives and later head out to Ngorongoro Crater towards Karatu for an overnight stay.

  • Overnight at Ngorongoro Corridor Lodge
  • Meals plan: Dinner / breakfast / packed lunch

You will depart the lodge at around 0700hrs and head to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. The park is renowned for its elusive tree-climbing lions and diverse birdlife. After your tour around the beautiful lake and the amazing groundwater forest you will be transferred back to Arusha in the afternoon via curio shops where you can grab some souvenirs to take back home with you.
