Tour Overview

The wildebeest river crossing is a dramatic event that takes place during the Great Migration in East Africa. This natural spectacle occurs primarily in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

Great Migration Overview
– Timings: The migration is an annual event that typically starts around June and ends in October.
– Movement: Over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, travel in a clockwise direction across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystems in search of fresh grazing and water.

River Crossing & Rivers Involved: The most famous crossings are of the Mara River and Grumeti River.
– Hazards: The river crossings are perilous due to strong currents, steep banks, and the presence of predators such as crocodiles and big cats.
– Survival: Despite the dangers, the crossing is a crucial part of the migration, as it leads the herds to more fertile grazing grounds.

Overall, the wildebeest river crossing is a remarkable event showcasing the resilience and instinctual drive of these animals in their quest for survival.
