Day by Day Overview

You’ll be met on arrival in Entebbe international airport, be welcomed by a safari representative / guide from Primate Experts Uganda who will give you a briefing about your safari around Uganda’s beautiful destinations. Depending on your arrival time, the trip tour may start with a city tour around Kampala or transfer to the hotel.

After breakfast you start your safari. Driving through Kampala to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here you have a walking safari to the Southern Park to trek white rhinos that have been re-introduced in Uganda. In the afternoon you will drive to the legendary Murchison Falls, from which the national park derives its name.

After an early breakfast, head off on a game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. This is a beautiful drive across savannah, borassus palm forest and grassland down to Lake Albert where the Albert Nile heads north. Drive in the open African savanna in search of lion, leopard, hyena, buffalo, elephant, Jackson hartebeest. oribi, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, as well as spotting various bird species such as the secretary bird, black chested snake eagle, tawny and marshal eagles, carmine and swallow tailed bee-eaters and many more. In the afternoon, go for a boat ride up the Nile, to Murchison Falls. Enjoy these spectacular falls and then hike to the top of the falls where the Nile squeezes through a 7 meter gap. At the bottom you will see huge Nile crocodiles basking.

After breakfast, you will drive out of Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale National Park, along the way passing many tea plantations and stopping in Fort Portal. In the afternoon you will arrive in Kibale National Park, the primate capital of the world.

After breakfast you will go for chimpanzee tracking and enjoy a wonderful forest experience. Kibale’s 795 km2 National Park contains one of the most beautiful and varying tracts of tropical forest in the whole of Uganda. This is home to 13 species of primate including chimpanzees. The park’s highest point is at 1590 m above sea level. After lunch you continue to Queen Elisabeth National Park, enjoying a game drive on your way in. Named after her Majesty the Queen of England, it is Uganda’s most popular and most scenic game reserves. It stretches from the crater-dotted foothills of the Rwenzori range in the north, along the shores of Lake Edward to the remote Ishasha River in the south, incorporating a wide variety of habitats that range from savanna and wetlands and lowland forest.

Enjoy an early morning game drive. There are over 100 mammal species that include lion, hippo, buffalo, leopard, spotted hyena, elephant and the elusive giant forest hog in this park. The primates include chimps, black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, black faced monkeys, red colobus, red tailed monkeys and olive baboons. Queen Elizabeth boasts one of the highest bio diversity ratings of any game park, from the open savannah to rain forest, dense papyrus swamps, and beautiful bird species restricted to only this rift valley. Return to the lodge and in the afternoon  enjoy a boat ride on Kazinga Channel.

Depart for Bwindi National Park in the morning. On your way you will have a chance for a game drive in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park where tree climbing lions are found, then continue to the home of the mountain gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Of Uganda’s forested parks, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for gorilla tracking, but it also provides refuge to elephants, chimpanzees, monkeys and various small antelopes, as well as 23 bird species restricted to this region.

This morning you will get up very early for your amazing gorilla trekking. Trekking the mountain gorilla is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. The trek will take between 2 and 6 hours, but is well worth the effort. You will be led by an experienced ranger who will tell you interesting facts about flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the gorillas.

Today you drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Even at the entrance to the park you can watch impalas and zebras and  you will have a game drive as you enter the park. The Lake Mburo National Park forms a mosaic-like habitat with rocks, dry slopes, open and wooded savannas, forests, and swamps increases. This diversity of habitats is home to superb bird life with 313 bird species recorded in the park, including flame head barbet, long-tailed zitting cisticola (Tabora), African bins rail, collared barbet, binding bush singer among others.

After breakfast, you will have an early morning nature walk in the park then start your journey to Jinja. Established in 1907 Jinja is a former industrial town as well as the second largest town in Uganda and home to the Source of the River Nile.

Spend the day relaxing at the lodge or choose from the optional activities available. These include half/full day white water rafting on the Nile, kayaking, horse riding where you enjoy leisurely rides through the villages and farm lands along the Nile, or bike ride.

You will enjoy a boat ride on the source of the Nile. The Nile is a major north-flowing river in north eastern Africa, regarded as the longest river in the world (6,853 km long). After the boat ride you will have a brief city tour of Jinja, visit a market, and then start your journey back to Entebbe Airport for your flight back home.
