Day by Day Overview

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, our VIP Visa Specialist will meet and welcome you to East Africa. He guides you through the entire Tanzania visa application process, skipping long immigration queues. You will be escorted from arrival to departure, making your arrival to Tanzania completely worry-free. Upon exiting the airport, a Galloping Safaris representative will transfer you to Arusha (45 minutes) and the Serenity retreat of Lake Duluti Lodge. Set on a picturesque coffee plantation, this charming lodge has beautiful views of Mount Meru and is the ideal place to acclimatize to Africa. After settling into your cottage, take a stroll through the plantations, visit the markets of nearby Arusha or simply relax in the poolside gardens with a chilled drink. On cool winter evenings, get cosy next to a fireplace and sip one of the best coffees you will ever taste.

Dinner and overnight: Lake Duluti Lodge

Depart at 08h30 from Arusha in a 4×4 vehicle and drive to Tarangire National Park, a unique place with some of Tanzania’s largest populations of elephant and diverse scenery, including the dramatic baobab trees that are so typical of the park. Enjoy a picnic lunch near a stretch of the Tarangire River. More game drives until the end of the day when you drive to Sanctuary Swala Camp for dinner and overnight. However, it is the pure delight and sheer pleasure of luxury tents that will remain with you for years to come, and will keep you returning, if only in spirit, to this delightfully dreamlike lodge. Sunset Hill is the perfect location to sit atop and enjoy the deep orange sunsets that often welcome in the starry skies. With food and drinks served by the staff, this is truly a magical experience not to be missed.

Dinner and overnight: Sanctuary Swala Camp

Enjoy a sunrise bush walk on a new African morning when there’s a calmness to the Tarangire panorama. It seems serene and soft, a little haze rising through the 300-year old trees. But head out at this hour and it’s eventful in the bush; antelopes don’t graze, they stop and listen, fearful of a predatory approach. Elephants bash into trees and giraffe feed silently. Morning is the premier time of day for a game drive, a time when big cats are on the move, and big mammals are feeding with abandon. The grass moves and camouflage is betrayed. Keep watching and it’s another minute before the next rustle. Now the sighting is unmistakable – just ten meters away there’s a cheetah concealing itself amongst the green, perhaps the impala get scared, and you don’t see more than this. But on some mornings, you watch a whole stalking and hunting scene play out.

Dinner and overnight: Sanctuary Swala Camp

Enjoy breakfast with fine views then leave the camp and with a game drive en-route exit Tarangire gate and drive the short distance to Lake Manyara National Park, a unique park with alkaline lake and breathtaking views. Here you will view a wide variety of wildlife and the acacia woodlands offer the best overall wildlife viewing in the park. Enjoy your picnic lunch under the acacia trees. This habitat is favored by the park’s famous tree-climbing lions, leopards and giraffes and the greatest elephant concentration in East Africa. Algae thrive in the high saline content of the lake. Huge and colorful flocks of birds gather in the water to feed, including many different varieties of birds that coexist together. In fact, well over 300 different species of birds have been recorded here, continue with afternoon game drive and later drive to the lush retreat of Lions Paw Ngorongoro Camp for cocktails and dinner.

Dinner and overnight: Lions Paw Ngorongoro Camp

Today you will explore the famous Ngorongoro Crater during a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater. Often described as one of Africa’s ‘Garden of Eden’, Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. With a bit of luck, the Big Five can be spotted during one game drive only. Later drive to the lush retreat of of Lions Paw Ngorongoro Camp for sundowners at the lodge. The ever-inviting fireplace pit by the swimming pool where the Swahili lessons with fun are offered by our staff.

Dinner and overnight: Lions Paw Ngorongoro Camp

Breakfast, drive to the Serengeti National Park. A brief visit en route to Olduvai Gorge, which is often referred to as ‘The Cradle of Mankind’ and is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world. Then stop at Land of the Maasai—the iconic pastoralists of the East African savanna, known for their scarlet robes, bead work and legendary ceremonies. Pay a visit to a Maasai Manyatta, or village, where you’re greeted with a foot-stomping, high-jumping welcome dance. Immerse yourself in their world, learning about their customs. Meet the village elders, visit homes, and take part in a memorable cultural exchange. Picnic lunch in the park. Proceed to Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We head to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species.

Dinner and overnight: Four-Season Serengeti Safari Lodge (Horizon room upper level with a view of the watering hole)

Early breakfast then a full day of game drives in Serengeti National Park. The park, its name from the Maasai word Siringitu meaning endless plain, is located along the rift valley and is abound with geological formations. One of Serengeti’s defining features are its kopjes (pronounced copy), a feature of continual weathering. These islands in the sea of grass are formed as the top soil comprising of rock and ash is eroded exposing the covered layer of metamorphic rock. These exposed rock forms, kopjes, are round as a result of spherical wind weathering. The national park covers an area of 14800 square kilometres most of which is grass plains. These rich grass plains are a result of ash deposited by volcanic eruptions, and provide a home to 3 million animals. Within these grass plains the scattered kopjes act as a heaven for animals from grass fires, predators and the heat. The game drives in this park are exceptional and game viewing incredible, offering the best opportunity of viewing cheetah, leopard and lion.

Dinner and overnight: Four-Season Serengeti Safari Lodge (Horizon room upper level with a view of the watering hole)

Early breakfast then we start with another game drive through the Southern or Northern Serengeti and head to the Mara River, groaning with crocs and hippos, where it’s time to watch the wildebeest migration. This area is great for elephant, big herds of buffalo, lion, cheetah as well as leopard in the many kopjes that make this landscape so distinctive. Also look out for small oribi, which thrives in this area, but is otherwise extremely scarce in northern Tanzania generally. Sunset game drive to Olakira Migration Camp.

Dinner and overnight: Olakira Migration Camp

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in the northern corridor of Serengeti National Park, where you can often see wildebeest and large numbers of lions and cheetahs, as well as herds of giraffe and zebra – a most unforgettable spectacle of Africa’s circle of life, right before your eyes! Equally impressive are Tanzania’s magical sunsets, which out here are celebrated with traditional sundowners like those you’ll enjoy at your camp on your final night on safari, followed by a festive farewell dinner at Olakira Migration Camp.

Dinner and overnight: Olakira Migration Camp

Breakfast then your final morning in the Serengeti for a game drive en route to the airstrip that may turn up any number of cat family or mammals on the plains. Arrive at the airstrip in time for check in for the flight to Arusha airport which departs at 10:30 am, arriving in Arusha at 12:15 pm.

Upon arrival at Arusha airport you will  meet with our guide for a short transfer to Butter and Scotch Restaurant at Sable Squire Garden for a delicious farewell delicious lunch. Later drive back to Kilimanjaro Airport in time for check in for your departure flight.
