Day by Day Overview
Lying on the gently rolling foothills that cascade down from Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. This charming town is an ideal base to explore Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. It’s hard to think of another place in the world that is in close vicinity to such a variety of national parks and game reserves! Here, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are only a short flight away from Arusha’s beloved coffee plantations.
-
ARUSHA COFFEE LODGE
Hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, on the outskirts of Arusha town, you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any East African luxury safari.
See predator and prey side-by-side in nature’s beautiful spectacle, Tarangire National Park, a hidden gem in Tanzania’s famed northern safari circuit. With herds of elephant, lions and other game animals flocking to its river banks and swamps during the dry season, it offers an excellent East African safari. As many safari goers refer it as a second Serengeti, Tarangire surely lives up to the expectation of the name.
-
NIMALI TARANGIRE
Set alongside a dry riverbed peppered with huge granite boulders and well hidden amongst the acacia and baobab trees, Nimali Tarangire sits peacefully in its own private concession, adjacent to the eastern boundary of Tarangire National Park and, most importantly, away from the mainstream vehicles visiting the national park. No-one else is allowed to drive within the private concession and open vehicles are used for all game activities. This is true luxury African safari.
Home to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Ngorongoro highlands in northern Tanzania offer a multitude of fascinating experiences to engage visitors. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, the conservation area allows visitors to sample locally grown and brewed coffee, safari through a crater, hike up another and walk in the footsteps of early man. The Ngorongoro Crater is famed for being the only intact caldera in the world. A wildlife sanctuary flourishes in its basin where the floor has been fertilised by the volcanic soil, attracting an array of wildlife ranging from lions and leopards to elephants and hippos.
-
THE HIGHLANDS DOMES
Set on the lush slopes of Olmoti Volcano, The Highlands has sweeping views right across to the Serengeti. The eight tents are canvas and perspex domes – a design inspired by traditional Maasai bomas. At the heart of the camp is the library with its indoor fireplace that replaces the typical safari campfire. At night, gather around a crackling fire with a glass of wine or whiskey before sitting down to a delicious three-course dinner. Luxury in every imaginable way!
Stretching across 1.5 million hectares of land, the Serengeti National Park is known for its impressive population of wildlife, including the Big 5. It is also renowned for being part of the stage on which the annual Great Migration plays out. Each year, over two million wildebeest, a fair number of gazelles, and a small following of zebra, seek better grazing areas by migrating south in the Serengeti, then west and north into the Maasai Mara before eventually returning. It is unsurprising that the Serengeti’s bustling plains offer some of the most remarkable safari opportunities in the country and visiting in the right season will promise astonishing wildlife spectacle.
-
NIMALI MARA
Set in the more remote area of Kogatende, in the northern sector of the Serengeti National Park, Nimali Mara Camp is a small, intimate luxury safari camp with only 10 tents. Located about 30 minutes from the Mara River in a small kopje, the camp fits naturally into its surroundings amongst the trees and boulders with an infinity pool set within a natural cave. The camp has been strategically located away from the hustle and bustle of safari vehicles whilst retaining easy access to the river and views of the amazing wildebeest migration crossings.
Experience excitement on the shores of Lake Manyara. Characterised by cliffs, verdant acacia woodlands, open savannahs, and reflective waters, Lake Manyara’s diverse landscape is home to an array of wildlife. Its shores see hippos wallowing in its alkaline waters alongside flamingos picking at succulent treats hidden beneath the surface. Zebra and giraffe rest languidly on the open grassland, ears pricked for any sign of movement from the woodlands hiding the elusive leopards and tree-loving lions commonly found in the area.
-
LAKE MANYARA TREE LODGE
Designed to exert minimal impact on the environment, the lodge offers an exclusive interpretive safari in a more remote area of the national park. Gentle Tanzanian hospitality is exuded from the team, who have a passion for delighting guests, whether you are on honeymoon, or a family safari. Nine stilted tree-house luxury suites, crafted from local timber and makuti palm fronds, boast a sophisticated blend of intimacy and romance, offering privacy and exclusivity in the cool, leafy surroundings, which often has elephant visitors passing through.
You’ve reached the end of your adventure and transfer back to Arusha/airport.
